Typical use

Place the extender at the end of a cable run from a PoE switch. It is powered by that PoE link and passes data and power on to two PoE cameras, so one cable can serve two cameras beyond the usual 100 m Ethernet limit.

Notes before ordering

  • The extender adds no power of its own. Total power available to both cameras is limited by what the upstream switch port delivers, minus cable loss.
  • The 250 m figure is the manufacturer’s rating. Usable distance depends on cable quality (solid copper Cat5e/Cat6 recommended), camera load and installation. Tell us your cameras and cable lengths and we will check the power budget with you.
  • IEEE 802.3af. An 802.3af port supplies up to 15.4 W, which must cover both cameras and cable loss, so this extender suits low-power fixed cameras. Higher-power or PTZ cameras need a different solution.
